Midway Phoenix Corp installed the island’s first Cellular Phone System. This system generated positive cash revenue, which helped pay for island expenses. In addition, it supported island safety. The USFWS completely removed the Cell System, soon after MPC departed from the island. The Cellular Phone System was not replaced, by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
