On November 23, 1985, Pan Am Airlines landed a 747 on Midway. The plane was named the China Clipper II, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first China Clipper flight. Their original China Clipper flights included overnight stays at Midway Island.
Seats for the anniversary flight sold at more than $5000. Several celebrities were on-board the anniversary flight, including John Travolta, James Michener along with the grandsons of Charles Lindbergh. The passengers were allowed tour the island.
As a side note – I had made a home video of Goonies dancing to music, which included another segment of Gooney crash landings. I felt so honored that some had bought my video, in the Midway Store, and later learned the video was played on the 747’s video system, as they departed from Midway.
