Fuel Farm

On February 1, 2003, while under direct management of the US Fish and Wildlife Service as much as 100,000 gallons of JP-5 jet fuel were spilled from a pipeline at the Midway Fuel Farm. Officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Response Team, the U.S. Coast Guard and Geo Engineers responded. The Service received $4.5 million in emergency supplemental funds for the fuel spill cleanup effort. It was reported that for the leak to have occurred where it did, multiple valves were left in the open position over a holiday weekend.
